The Graduate is an entertaining movie on first watch, but its values seem either hedonistic or at least depressing. A college graduate rejects any chance for a responsible and successful life, but instead mopes for the entire movie. He has an affair with a older married woman and then runs off with her daughter with no prospects whatsoever. The final scene shows them on some sort of hippie bus like they are going to join a counter-culture revolution.
In 1967 Roger Ebert gave the movie four stars...
... but three decades later changed his mind...
Rating: B
